The initiative

Adopt a colleague is a project of A SHELTER Foundation. Our cause is to help retired specialists in Bulgaria live because the pensions they receive doesn't covor all the monthly expences and they are simply doomed! That is right, You may not believe it but some of this specialists worked for more than 45 years to retire just to be forced to live with as little as £54 per month. That isn't enough to cover even the electricity bill. These people are left to the mercy of their friends and children but in some cases these people are all alone. Bulgaria is the poorest country in the EU but that doesn't mean the life is cheap. The average electricity bill is £40-£100; The average tap watter bill is £5-£10; The average apartment rent is £120-£200. Not to mention medicines bills and many others.

Here in Bulgaria when people retire they depend on their family to live, they continue to work until they get too old or they get ill or even die. That is the raw truth!

How can You help?

If You are a doctor You can help a doctor, if You are a fireman You can aid a fireman. If You give the equivalent of 1 hour of Your work per month You can help one colleague live better! That will make the difference! If You work for lets say £65 per hour You will help one colleague in need cover some expences and that just might be enough to survive the winter! Can You even imagine these people who worked hard all their lives are forced to live for the whole month with less than You earn per hour? And the food and the household goods in Bulgaria are more expensive in most cases than those in the UK.

A SHELTER Foundation is a cause based non for profit charity foundation which means we will not work for profit. The purpose of this foundation is to accumulate capital to invest in charity causes while also educating the masses regarding various environmental problems

Our mission

A SHELTER Foundation is oriented towards the environmental problems caused by humans interacting the nature. We want to recover the equilibrium by developing projects, causes and initiatives to restore the health in the ecosystems.

   – educating the masses & building information campaigns
   – involving voluntary workers to support our causes
